Besides
being named #1 on Maxim magazine’s Hot 100 of 2005
list, a star on the ABC drama “Desperate Housewives”
and a L’Oreal spokesmodel, you with think Eva Longoria
might be a little “full of herself”. In reality, she
is the same very well-grounded individual she was back
on her family’s ranch in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Born on March 15, 1975, Eva Longoria was the youngest
of four girls in her family. She will tell you that
everything came to her late in life. Because her
sisters all have fair skin and blue eyes, she
considered herself the “ugly duckling” of the family.
This misguided thought haunted her into her teens
until she finally blossomed into a beautiful and
vivacious young woman. She graduated from the
University of Texas A&M in Kingsville with a B.S. in
Kinesiology (the study of anatomy, physiology and
mechanics of body movement in humans). After
graduating college she entered a beauty contest,
becoming Miss Corpus Christi, which brought her to Los
Angeles, CA.
After being spotted and signed by a Los Angeles talent
agent, Eva began her assent to stardom with auditions
and bit parts in many mostly forgettable roles until
she landed the coveted role of Isabella Williams on
the very popular CBS daytime drama “The Young and The
Restless”. After stint on “Y&R”, Eva landed the role
of Gabrielle Solis on the #1 rated show, ABC’s
“Desperate Housewives”.
Although Eva is quite busy with her exciting and
thriving acting career, she still has time to use her
stardom in a productive manner for several charities.
Two organizations that are very dear to her are the
“Padres Contra el Cancer” and the “Dolores Huerta
Foundation”. Padres Contra el Cancer is a small
non-profit organization which seeks to improve the
quality of life for Latino children with cancer and
their families. The Dolores Huerta Foundation is an
advocate for social justice issues concerning women,
youth, farm workers, immigrants and poor communities.
Currently, Ms. Longoria has just completed filming the
movie “Harsh Times” with actor Christian Bale and has
started filming “The Sentinel” with Michael Douglas.
“Harsh Times” is an Independent film set in South Los
Angeles and chronicles the lives of two young men and
the violence that comes between them. “The Sentinel”
also stars Kiefer Sutherland and Kim Basinger is about
a Secret Service Agent (Longoria) uncovering a plot to
assassinate the President.
The one thing that most people agree on after meeting
Eva Longoria is she hasn’t lost her humanity. She is a
genuine individual who hasn’t let her stardom make her
a snob. She often buys lavish gifts for her friends
and freely expresses her humility when she does
something that is taken the wrong way. An example of
this is when she was photographed wearing a t-shirt
saying “I’ll have your baby, Brad” that one of her
‘friends’ gave her, she wrote a letter of apology to
Jennifer Aniston telling her how ashamed she was for
wearing it.
What does all this mean? Eva Longoria is a smart
business woman who knows how to use her celebrity to
help others and who also makes mistakes in judgment
along the way. Compared to other stars and their
problems, Eva is an angel even when she says of does
something she shouldn’t. It is far better to make
mistakes with your words or expressions rather than
with drugs, sex or criminal behavior. Hopefully Eva
will be around a long time and never loses her
humility.
